Why are we electing these people?

,
Someone please explain this to me because I just don't understand. On election day, November 4th, the Congressional approval rating was 18%. It may just be me, and apparently is, but that seems like it's really low. These are people that we have chosen to represent us in the Government and only 18% of the general public think that they're doing a good job of that? First of all, that seems ridiculous. Isn't it these people's job to vote the way we want them to? Isn't that what representation is? That's a different topic that will have to be discussed later though. The point that I'm making here is that last month we voted again for new Congress members. What did we do? We elected the same jerks that were already in office. Over 90% of the Congress members that were up for election were reelected. Are you kidding me?!? What are we doing to ourselves? Do you think it's going to be better this time around? Why are we electing these same jerks that we obviously don't think are doing a good job? We elected them before, they stabbed us in the backs and then we elect them again? I guess I just don't get it.

Its a weird phenomenon, but the root of it is that even though congress as a whole has a low approval rating, people generally like their own representative. So basically most people think they're guy is good but everyone else sucks. Combine that with the fact that most of the time the elected officials can redraw the district lines how they want them, and it makes it pretty hard to beat the incumbent.

Plus there's the fact that in order to be voted in, you have to be a politician. I think we can safely assume 80% of people don't really like politicians.

On another note, I think we can also safely assume that 80% of the people don't know what congress does anyways.
